Cheng Yu is an internationally renowned pipa and guqin virtuoso. Born to an artistic family in Beijing, she grew up in the Gobi desert in Gansu, Northwest China where her family had been exiled during the “Cultural Revolution”. She has been based in London for many years and has performed over 600 concerts and toured world-wide.

Cheng Yu will be joined by Mengmeng Wu (guzheng) and Wang Xiao (erhu) plus a special appearance distinguished Chinese writer and advocate Xinran, author of the best selling China Witness – Voices From a Silent Generation and The Good Women of China : Hidden Voices. She, together with Miao Ye will read from her new book, Buy me the Sky, about the one-child generation, accompanied with new pieces from the combined musicians – and no doubt, leading to some open-hearted improvisation. We hope, as the Chinese proverb says, – ‘indulge in pleasure and forget home and duty’.
