Now entering its 19th season Song of Songs, Club Inégales turns its ever-adventurous gaze to the mystic and divine.
Drawing inspiration from Middle Eastern and Asian poets such as Rumi and Khalil Gibran, and that exceptionally sensual chapter in the Bible The Song of Solomon, our house band and talented guests will be celebrating music and poetry that expresses love and devotion, in both human and mystical ways.
In the final of five shows, we will be featuring the supremely talented avant jazz guitarist Chris Sharkey, whose incendiary fusion of styles wowed audiences at our ‘Off the Page’ marathon performance last season. He’ll be joined on the night by the wonderful jazz singer and violinist Alice Zawadzki, as well as our ever-adventurous house band Notes Inégales.
“Fiercely inventive.” – The Guardian
“Sharkey is at the cutting-edge of contemporary improv-fusion guitar technique, colliding headlong free-jazz phrasing with roaring thrash metal riffs and ghostly electronics.” – John Fordham, The Guardian
“Astonishing technique that produces a vast array of otherworldly sounds from his battered looking Fender Strat, creating a torrent of angular flurries, gut-wrenchingly heavy, chugging, riffs and spaced out looping. He’s one of the most exciting guitarists on the UK scene, and one that might just find fans in both free jazz and avant metal camps.” – Jazzwise Magazine
